Science

At St Helen's the teaching of Science aims to stimulate a child's curiosity in finding out why things happen in the way they do. It introduces methods of enquiry and investigation to stimulate creative thought in a practical way. Children learn to ask scientific questions, new vocabulary, record and interpret their findings and begin to appreciate how Science affects their lives both now and in the future. Oh and its a lot of fun!

As a school, we all put forward suggestions to answer the statement, 'science is good when...'and from this, we took five key principles when teaching and learning in science, these are:
Explore, excite, simulate, create and discover.

Each lesson, children are encouraged to reflect on the principles.
