Home learning

Spellings

Spelling lists are sent home on Friday and tested the following Friday.

Spelling activities are available on EdShed for children to access, as well as in their purple spelling book. Please use the purple spelling book to practice spellings with your child at home.

EdShed usernames and passwords are written inside the purple spelling book for easy access.

Homework

Homework is sent home every Friday and is due back the following Thursday.

Homework may be based on Maths or English, depending on what we have focused on during the week and the areas where children need extra support.

Homework will be sent home in a big yellow book, which should be returned to school each week so it can be reviewed.

Reading

We love seeing children making progress, and you can really help by supporting their learning at home. We ask that children read to an adult at least four times a week (don’t forget to record it in their reading record book!)

Reading at home helps children in many ways:

  • It builds their vocabulary and understanding of language

  • It strengthens their reading fluency and confidence

  • It supports their writing, spelling, and comprehension skills

  • Most importantly, it develops a love of stories and learning

Even just a few minutes a day makes a big difference, and sharing books together can be a fun and special time for both children and adults.

Thank you so much for your support , working together makes a big difference and helps your child enjoy learning and feel confident at school!

Reading for Pleasure

Our school continues to encourage reading at home for pleasure this year!

For every five times your child reads at home to an adult (it doesn’t have to be five books, just five reading sessions), they will earn a raffle ticket. These tickets go into a draw at the end of each term, giving children the chance to win a prize.

Children will also receive reading certificates when they reach milestones of 30, 60, 90, 120, and 180 home reads.

We hope this initiative makes reading fun and rewarding, and encourages children to enjoy books both at home and at school!
